Urvashi Rautela's 'Chipkali' Cartier Necklace, which Monica Bellucci also wears, was inspired by the pet alligator.

 Bollywood actress Urvashi Rautela has been making headlines as she attended the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in a reptilian necklace. 

The alligator necklace by Cartier grabbed the attention of the netizens in no time. Now, the actress shared why she chose to wear the necklace and mentioned that it has got a lot of history.

Urvashi on opting for unique necklace for Cannes

Urvashi recently shared that the crocodile necklace which she donned is her favourite. She said, "It is one of my favourites and I absolutely love it. It has got a lot of history behind it. It is something of a signature. 

I believe that when you are in Cannes and being a very proud Indian, I feel that there has to be something signature, something very different. I absolutely love the design, and the diamonds on it. It is something worth it." For the unversed, her necklace caught the eye of people on social media and then there was no coming back from this. People took to twitter and trolled her for wearing such necklace.

According to Forbes, more than 40 years ago, Mexican actress María Félix marched into Cartier's Paris boutique with her pet a baby alligator in an aquarium. She wanted a special necklace that would replicate the alligator's face, head, body, legs and tail as closely as possible. 

The necklace was then made which consisted of two articulated alligator that hugged the neck and that also could be removed from the neck and worn separately as brooches and is from Cartier's collection.

Actress Monica Bellucci wore original necklace in Cannes 2006

Apart from Maria Felix’s, the original necklace by French luxury firm Cartier was worn by Italian actress Monica Bellucci as well. Interestingly, she also wore it at the Cannes film Festival in 2006. The actress was seen with then-husband Vincent Cassel at the prestigious event.

Urvashi wore recreated alligator necklace

Cartier recreated the alligator necklace in 2018 followed by three other companion pieces including a bracelet and ring. As per reports, the crocodile necklace is the most expensive necklace in the Cartier range. The specific price tag of the same is not mentioned yet.

Urvashi Rautela walked the Cannes red carpet in her Cartier necklace with a fuschia gown by Sima Couture. She dropped several pictures and videos of herself before attending the event. Sharing a video montage, she wrote, "76th Festival de Cannes 2023 Merci."
