The following contains spoilers for Station 19, Season 6, Episode 18, "Glamorous Life," which debuted on May 18th, 2023, on ABC. Station 19 Season 6 has been rife with tension over the role of Captain. Such storylines have included Beckett's incompetence,

Maya vying for her old position back to the point it caused her physical and mental distress, and Theo's turbulent interim captaincy. But as of Season 6, Episode 18, "Glamorous Life," a new Captain has officially been chosen for Station 19.

In Season 6, Episode 16, "Dirty Laundry," Beckett announced he would not seek his captaincy back, leaving the door open for a new Captain to be chosen. Chief Ross asked the lieutenants of Station 19 if any of them would like to put their hats in the ring, and Theo Ruiz, Robert Sullivan and Andy Herrera all stepped forward. After considering her options for an episode, Ross told Andy in the finale that she would be the new Captain of the 19.

Something that sets Andy apart is that she values doing the right thing over being a strict rule follower. Viewers saw how this played out to the team's advantage when Andy took point on the 19's coup against Beckett in Season 6, Episode 11, "Could I Leave You?"

The team came to believe that Beckett was drunk on the way to a call and decided to stage a coup, with Andy acting as Captain instead of Beckett. If Andy had not ignored the chain of command and taken charge of that situation, more people could have gotten hurt on the call.

Unlike how Theo micromanaged the team to excess during his interim captaincy, Andy trusts the 19 to know how to do their jobs. She also understands that her fellow firefighters are capable and that constantly breathing down everyone's neck is not a productive way to run a team.

Through her time as a lieutenant, she has demonstrated that when she is in a leadership position, she will give others the space they need to do their best work. These values prove that Andy will be able to lead Station 19 successfully.

One of Andy's most endearing qualities is that she views the 19 like one big family and treats them accordingly. When Jack Gibson was going through a rough time, Andy was there for Jack when Sullivan wanted to let Jack figure out his problems independently.

As a gesture of support, Andy organized for the team to fix the roof of the house that Jack was staying in. Despite the fact that Jack was isolating himself, Andy wanted him to know that he was still a part of the family.

The idea that the team is a family is important because it inspires comradery. The 19 can work effectively together because they know and trust each other completely. They are stronger when they work together as a family would, and no one believes in this bond more than Andy.

If anyone will ensure that the first responders consistently have each other's backs, it's Andy. Since a change in showrunners has been announced for Station 19, it will be interesting to see the direction that Season 7 takes. After such a tumultuous season in terms of leadership, Station 19 will be safe in the hands of their new Captain.
