The Flash drops an explosive trailer for its series finale, setting up Barry Allen’s final mission to save the timeline once and for all.
Grant Gustin's Barry Allen looking on with tears in his eyes
The trailer for The Flash's series finale sets up a slew of returning villains as Barry Allen embarks on his final run. Unveiled by TVLine, the promo teases the climactic conclusion of both the series and the Arrowverse as a whole as the Scarlet Speedster (Grant Gustin) must save the timeline one last time.
Standing in his way are villains such as Harrison Wells aka Reverse-Flash (Tom Cavanagh) and Savitar who seemingly holds Barry's future daughter Nora (Jessica Parker Kennedy) hostage. The Flash isn't alone though as he's joined by Jay Garrick (John Wesley Shipp) and the aforementioned Nora, who has once again donned the mantle of XS.
After nine seasons, The Flash is finally coming to an end much to the displeasure of many fans. The end of the show also marks the conclusion to The CW's sweeping Arrowverse, a connected franchise that included popular shows such as Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow and Black Lightning.
While the gravity of the end is weighing on enthusiasts of TV universe, Gustin himself has noted that everything wrapping up with The Flash Season 9 makes it easier for him. "I guess I hadn't thought about it but maybe in some ways, it did make it a little easier knowing the party's not going to keep going without us, it's like we’re shutting this place down," the actor said.
Tying Up the Flash's Loose Ends
As for some of The Flash's longest-running relationships, Gustin was similarly optimistic about how the show closes out Barry and Iris West. "This whole season, I think we really wanted to finish off seeing the beginning of their family and leaving [them] in a good place.
I think that’s what we do," Gustin said. Despite this, many fans have complained that The Flash Season 9 hasn't focused enough on the titular hero, something the finale will seemingly address.
While the Arrowverse may be coming to an end, TV fans looking for more in the way of DC can check out Superman & Lois, a show that has previously crossed over with The Flash but actually stands alone on its own Earth.
While the series has earned rave reviews from critics calling it one of The CW's best projects, its future is currently up in the air as the network has yet to confirm whether it will return for a fourth season.
